Joanne Simpson

Joanne Simpson was born, raised and educated in Montana where she obtained an MA from the University of Montana. She has taught Spanish in public and private schools at all levels in both Montana and Michigan for 39 years, and watercolor classes since 1985. Her art career began in 1984 when she won a Merchandise Award in the first juried show of the Montana Watercolor Society of which she is currently a Signature Member. Since then she has received many awards including the Board Award and Excellence Award in Watermedia (annual national juried show of the Montana Watercolor Society), First Place Floral and Still Life in the 2010/13 Hot Springs Art Society annual juried show, the Madeline Dolly Weaver Award for Watercolor and Excellence Awards in the Copper Country Gallery Exhibition in Houghton, MI, and finalist in the highly competitive biannual show of Art and Flowers at the Detroit Institute of Art. She has been invited to jury art shows both in Montana and Michigan. Her watercolor batik entitled “The Center of the World” appeared in The Artistic Touch 6, in 2014,and her work on silk appeared in the 1997 edition of Best of Silk Painting, by Janas and Tuckman. Her silk fabrics were used exclusively in the 1997 spring show of Detroit designer, Sharone. Her latest form of relaxation is making beaded jewelry. Joanne and her husband, Jim, reside in Polson and are proud parents of three and grandparents of six.
